DPD Germany simplifies returns process with digital solution for smartphones

In a move to simplify the parcel returns process for consumers, DPD Germany has included a digital ‘Return’ button on its smartphone app. When selected, the function creates a digital form, which can then be scanned at the chosen DPD parcelshop, eliminating the need to print a physical label. As well as the DPD app, the Return button can be found on paketnavigator.de, the carrier’s online platform for managing parcels.

Andreas Reß, director sales at DPD Germany, said, “The fast and convenient processing of returns is the basic requirement for continued growth in e-commerce. Our Return button provides online retailers with the ideal conditions for increasing the loyalty of their customers further – while at the same time saving valuable resources both for consignees and for shippers.

“For us, the digital delivery experience is very much part of digital shopping. With the Return button we are now filling in a further gap for the purpose of providing online consumers with the highest level of convenience across the entire shopping experience.”

DPD’s E-Shopper Barometer survey, which was published in February 2017, found that an uncomplicated returns process is an essential element when it comes to online shopping. A survey of 1,582 German e-shoppers indicated that for 81% of those interviewed, complicated return shipping represented a significant obstacle in making an online purchase. In contrast, delivery costs only represented an important hurdle for 58% of those surveyed.
