Emirates Post hosts educational tour for French students

Emirates Post is to host 155 students from the Lycee Francais International Georges Pompidou – a French international school in Dubai – throughout January as part of its educational and community outreach efforts. The post welcomed 26 six-year-olds on January 16 for the first wave of students.

Students arrive with letters and greeting cards addressed to a family member or friend residing in another country, with France, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Australia and Thailand being some of the destinations so far.

The tour begins with a visit to the Al Ramool Post Office counter to purchase stamps and post the students’ mail, and then reveals the journey of what happens to the letters. Students help in emptying the letters from the mailbox into a transport bag and carrying it to the sorting center nearby.

The rest of the journey is explained, including Emirates Post’s partnership with the Universal Postal Union and the process of transportation by dedicated courier vehicles up until their letter reaches its intended recipient.

Obaid Mohammed Al Qatami, Emirate Posts’ acting chief commercial officer, said, “It is important to highlight the role mail plays in our daily lives and by educating students on the journey of letters from mailbox to post office to mailbox, we reinforce the critical importance of communication in the functioning of a community, in the sharing of cultures and the bridging of distances between loved ones.

“It is a joy to share in the children’s excitement as they post their letters and learn more about how throughout history the post has shaped the progress of nations.”
