Australia Post has opened its new AU$1m (US$733m) superstore in Alice Springs, located in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The new post office has been designed to bring modern postal services to remote towns such as Alice Springs, and features 24/7 parcel lockers; an online shopping zone with Apple Macs and iPads; financial, travel and identity services; and self-service terminals for paying bills, purchasing products and sending letters or parcels.

Adam Giles, chief minister for the Northern Territory, said, “Australia Post has listened to the needs of the Alice Springs community by investing in this post office transformation. The new superstore will provide access to critical services and will create an important hub for residents and visitors alike. I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved in its official launch.”

Christine Corbett, executive general manager – postal services, Australia Post, said, “Online shopping in Australia continues to grow so the introduction of a superstore in Alice Springs provides shoppers with access to postal services six days a week in a new, modern environment.

“Our customers’ needs have changed substantially over time and this superstore is another great example of how we’re changing to meet those needs, investing in the community, and demonstrating our commitment to the Northern Territory.

“The new superstore features a state-of-the-art design and an extensive range of postal products and services, including 24/7 parcel lockers to make it even easier for customers to pick up parcels at a time that suits them.”
